If you’re just starting out, in transition, or in need of a complete career makeover, you might want to seek the advice of a career coach. Normally, career coaching can cost anywhere between $100 to $300 an hour. But at the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i), these services are free for Singaporeans.

Losing a job or having to change jobs can be extremely stressful. This period may be accompanied by uncertainty, instability, and a reduction of income. Out of the 43 stressful life events that appear on the Holmes and Rahe stress scale, 9 of them are work- and career-related. These stressful life events are major contributors to depression, anxiety, and other illnesses.

Therefore, when confronting these stressful circumstances, it is absolutely essential to get support from family and friends. And with e2i’s team of nearly 50 career coaches, you also can have a professional guide you along the way.

What Can an e2i Career Coach Do?

Besides helping you with your job search, interview, and with optimising your résumé and LinkedIn profile, career coaches are also trained in career counselling. The counselling part of it includes personal development, creating and executing career plans, and managing factors outside of work which often influence your happiness and effectiveness at work. The career coaches identify employment barriers, whether they are internal or external, that could be impeding your desired career ambitions.

Career coaches at e2i are especially knowledgeable about a wide range of industries in Singapore. They are also very familiar with the various types of support & programmes offered by WSG, NTUC, and e2i, such as the Place-and-Train Programmes, Professional Conversion Programme (PCP), and Career Support Programme. They can also inform you about career fairs and networking events.

But above all, they aim to give you employability tools to optimise your chances of landing a job, along with career confidence, insight, encouragement and inspiration. They have seen many people in the same situation as you are in. And can offer you a different perspective, as well as help to alleviate some fear and anxiety.

They are another member of your support team. And they are free and available to help.
